As of December 19th, Pipedream Productions is now a registered 501(c)(3) organization. That’s #@%!ing fabulous news, right? If you’re sitting there scratching your head thinking, “What the hell is 501(c)(3) and why do these little Pipedream weirdos care so much?” Well, check out this nifty little definition from the IRS:
A 501(c) organization is a nonprofit organization in the federal law of the United States according to 26 U.S.C. § 501 and is one of 29 types of nonprofit organizations which are exempt from some federal income taxes.
In normal-people speak, we have basically received ‘non-profit’ status which means that if our audience members (you, perhaps?) donate to our artistic cause they’ll have the ability to use it as a tax write-off come April. Wahoo, tax breaks!
This is also thrilling news because we’re a theatre company that started in the walls of the DU Theatre Department and we never dreamed that we’d gain the following that we have now. Being recognized as a public charity under 501(c)(3) means we are headed in the right direction and we wouldn’t be able to set up shop without our fans, supporters, friends, and family.
We originally thrived off of our lofty dreams, and day by day, they slowly come true. Thank you to the federal law of the United States (do they appreciate shoutouts? Are we pushing our luck?) and thank YOU for being here, for reading this, and for continuing to support the arts.
Maybe your New Year's resolution was to be a bit more altruistic? Perfect! Fuel the Pipedream by donating today--we promise we’ll love you forever.
